CIVICSThis Civics class provides an analysis of the responsibility of each citizen’s involvement in government life and in society. Students will be asked to determine what makes a quality citizen. They will study a citizen’s responsibilities in the local, state and national governmental institutions. Within that framework, Civics students will become aware of their civil rights and liberties. Finally, the Civics class offers a perspective of a citizen’s role toward other countries and their
inhabitants . In Civics, students will learn about the foundations of American democracy through the structure of the federal, state, and local governments. Students also learn the significant decisions that have been made by our federal courts and how those decisions affect Americans today. The end result is students will complete the course with the full knowledge of the inner workings of the American government and citizens’ civic responsibilities, leading them to become productive American citizens with the education to make effective decisions concerning their own future. This class we will follow Wendell Berry’s philosophy: “The mind that is not baffled is not employed.” |
